Anne Frank: The Book, The Life, The Afterlife by Francine Prose does a great job analyzing her diary (more an edited memoir), providing historical background, writing analysis, discussion of the aftermath (including the play and film) and current educational use. Provides a fuller understanding in a way attractive to a general reader.
