Playoffs begin. A bad inning in the third and fourth inning was the end of it during the Dodgers/Cards (Dodgers bullpen did well, but losing 6-0 in the third is hard to overcome) and Boston/Anaheim games (Schilling doesn't need help like seven spots to win his games). Schilling had a good chance of winning anyway, so a blowout wasn't as bad. Still pretty lame. I'm pretty open in the first match-up (meaning lame games are bad), but just don't like the Red Sox, though Anaheim might be more lethal in the second round.
The Twins/Yanks game was a true pitching duel. Mussina gave up two runs, and the Yanks kept on hitting into double plays (and a play at the plate). Santana, the likely AL Cy Young unless Schilling gets it, continued his regular season dominance. The closer slammed the door quickly. The Yanks lost Game 1 vs. the Twins last year too and have made a bit of a habit of doing so early in playoffs. Game Three with its questionable Yankee starter (TBA) will be key, though winning Game Two will be rather important as well.
The Astros/Braves series starts tomorrow, and it's key that Clemens and Oswalt do their jobs -- the back end of the rotation is question. Also, the Braves have to go down. Traditionally, they do, and the match-ups are good enough that this should happen again. Anyway, with former Yanks on the Astros and Dodgers (Clemens/Pettite, though Andy is out for the year and Jeff Weaver), Yankee fans can root for NL teams as well though the Cards have a sort of baseball friendly feel to them that makes it hard to not wish the best for them.
Home late again -- saw a bit of the Yankee game (basic theme was prevalent -- had opportunities, didn't follow through; nothing wrong with their pitching, just not perfect), but not the debate. Preliminary readings are mixed (tied/Edwards edge). My immediate philosophy is that if Edwards, the boy wonder, at worse ties "the real President," he did well. If there is no clear winner, the debate probably will mean little in the final decision making, which is good in various ways.
Yeah, whatever. Gilmore Girls is on ABC Family during the week now. They also played a "behind the scenes" episode with an annoying/airhead looking interviewer that appeared to annoy some of the stars, especially Scott Patterson (Luke). Oh maybe, it was just me.
