I was told recently that health care reform, socialism (i.e., government programs we don't like), threatens democracy. But, popularly elected people would pass it. Answer: the people are deluded. This is the problem with majority rule -- the people elect people we don't like. The losers, the minority, can't get what they want. Some find this hard to accept.
