"College Athletes, Full-Ride Scholarships, and Anti-Intellectualism"
I have seen arguments that "college athletes should get paid" (and it's so wrong that they don't!) and my sentiments match this essay. Anyway, most college sports don't really make money. So, what some elite group will get special benefits, like some nobility?

in addition, the players who aspire to the pros and have the talent are afforded the opportunity for training and exposure in addition to the free ride at the educational institution. The truth is, of course, that most college players will never make the pros in any sport and know that. They play for the pleasure of competing in their sports and the free ride.
