I was wary that the hype for La La Land was too much and was right. Some of the set pieces were good but the film as a whole (including the downer ending) was not. I was repeatedly bored. Elsewhere (a YA novel from about a decade ago), suggesting when we die we go to another land, age backward and then are reborn, was very good.
