For reasons surely logical, the baseball trading deadline was on Tuesday August 2nd. The playoff teams all made some deals, some like the Padres making A LOT of deals. How did the Mets do? Tough schedule ahead!
There is a general sentiment -- even certain reporters said as much -- that they didn't quite do as much as expected. They did a reasonable amount. They got two halves of a DH (Vogelbach/Ruf) though seemed to give up a bit too much prospects (three) for the latter (plus JD Davis; Dominic Smith is hurt). They got another bench bat. Clearly a better bench now. And, a pretty good rightie reliever from the Cubs.
People wanted them to go "all out," but no reason to strip the minors, and who else would they get? The big disappointment is the lack of a left-handed reliever, though deGrom and May back helps in the pitching department. Some wanted them to get a catcher, but a key option there went nowhere anyway. The leftie issue is iffy. Overall, maybe a "B" grade.
