I saw the remake (with "Dean" from Gilmore Girls) in the movies and thought it was watchable. I saw a bit of Jason X on cable, which had some charm. I also wanted to check out "goes to Manhattan." So, I checked the library. No luck. It did have the original.
The DVD had some interesting extras, including a panel discussion over 25 years later. One thing discussed was the basics: you have a past evil, isolated teenagers (who have sex) who have no adults to save them as they are killed, and maybe a shock at the end. The original "final girl" also was on the panel and talked about being a victim of a stalker.
I started to watch the movie with the commentary running. There is a lot of exposition. It seems low budget but credibly made. About a half hour in, there really was no sex either (a G-rated bit before the first kills). And, you viewers must have been like "That's KEVIN BACON!" and it's like the commentary people (including Adrienne King) didn't see him!
(Aside: I use Grammarly and it's helpful. Sometimes, it gets to be too much and flags things that I don't think are worthy of it. This is especially the case with the "premium" content involving phrasing and so forth. It gets a bit annoying at some point. But, it catches some things that are fair game, and normal spell and grammar check stuff do not catch it.)
I got bored watching it, but the DVD was a worthwhile get.
