Chief Justice Roberts vs. Trump

There was an interesting article regarding Chief Justice Roberts and his role as chancellor of the Smithsonian. It includes some historical background.

Roberts joined with an effort to try to work around a claim of institutional bias. An "investigation" will take place to make sure nothing is amiss.

It is not the only case of Roberts clashing with Trump and MAGA in his institutional roles. Roberts wants to keep above it all. His Court will as a whole help the Trump Administration. But, he needs to have at least some cover that it's an independent body.

Recall when Roberts refused a request by Senate Democrats to even come in for an unofficial visit? As if justices never did that sort of thing. The justices eventually wrote a voluntary ethics policy, and only the liberals even deign to explain why they recuse.

A series of articles discussing the various roles of the Chief Justice has some potential. The position might have limited independent power. It still has various roles, including by statute.

Meanwhile, Trump is bashing lower court judges, and the Chief Justice of the United States keeps on overruling them for doing their jobs.

ETA: Emil Bove confirmed 50-49. What will happen with the criminal contempt investigation? Optimism does not seem to be the first choice here.
