This non-Rizzoli and Isles book by the author of the series does a good job with its parallel story about an Italian Jewish family up to the WWII. The present day story is less interesting, the final reveal a tad annoying, avoidable with some logic (like from the logical character). It also starts with a somewhat gratuitous bit of unpleasantness.
