I first learned about Dr. Kari Nixon (not Kari Lynn Nixon!) on Twitter. She is a passionate John Oliver fan, wishing she could be mentioned on his show. She also had a very charming video of her excitement receiving a box of her books. Plus, she does things like talk about Victorian medical advertisements. She comes off as a fun nerd. And, very nice (she even referenced me [Joe Paulson] as a supporter on her Twitter account).
After a book listed as a more academic affair (anyway, not in any libraries I have access to), this one is subtitled "What Pandemics Teach Us About Parenting, Work, Life, and Communities from the 1700s to Today." And, like a good teacher, she lists around thirty lessons with various case studies. The Robinson Crusoe guy wrote two plague related books. Who knew?
Her nature and love for her field is shown in the acknowledgments. She quotes (without translation) a line from the poem highlighted here. Ultimately, I found a lot of interesting stuff, but started to get a bit lost with so much material being tossed out. Do have her on John Oliver and Stephen Colbert too. I bet in small doses, she is even better.
