Crying Over Spilt Milk: SSM Orals Edition

I was looking at Courting Justice: Gay Men And Lesbians v. The Supreme Court (2002, right before Lawrence) again and again wished the SSM orals were a bit better. Baker v. Nelson? The couple at the time got married (sic) in a religious ceremony (not the only ones in that era). One of them got fired from a state job for being an active homosexual.
